Featured Theme: Wisconsin Voyagers

We are excited to announce a brand new theme that involves traveling around WI! This theme is geared towards our oldest Girl Scouts and will involve four nights spent at different campgrounds in WI. Each day will include a new adventure.

If you haven't read it yet, here is the description:

Explore all that Wisconsin has to offer during this road trip experience. You will start your first night at Camp Evelyn where you will prepare your bags and get to know your fellow travelers. The first day of your road trip will start with a short drive to Kettle Moraine State Park where you will enjoy hiking, swimming, and tent camping around a warm campfire. Other stops will include the Manitowoc Maritime Museum, Bay Beach Wildlife Sanctuary, and Wequiock Falls Park. Your last full day will be spent at Egg Harbor in Door County where you will be able to swim, relax and visit some of the local shops. You will return to Camp Evelyn at the end of the week before heading home.

We are excited to share a sneak peek of the activities happening on Monday and Tuesday.

Monday's activities:
  • Girls will ensure everything is packed right after breakfast and hit the road to head to their first campsite. Once they arrive at the campsite, they will have the opportunity to place their day. Possible activities include swimming at the lake, hiking the trails, visiting the nature center, and renting boats to explore parts of the water (with a guide).
  • After exploring the campsite and enjoying lunch, campers will set up their campsite with tents and sleeping gear. The afternoon will include more activities that are chosen by the girls.
  • In the evening, campers will make a delicious meal over the campfire with s'mores and enjoy sitting around the fire before bed. We will bring along plenty of card games and board games for some late-night fun.
Tuesday's activities:
  • After having breakfast over the campfire and packing up their campsite, campers will head to their next location which is Manitowoc. Once campers arrive at Manitowoc, we will have time for a quick stop at the store and a special lunch at Culver's (camp's treat).
  • The afternoon will consist of a Segway tour of Manitowoc and a tour of the Maritime Museum. There will be time for a quick stop at Cedar Crest ice cream before heading to the campsite to set up camp.
  • The evening will consist of another campfire meal and relaxation around the campfire. There might even be time for a quick swim in the lake!
These are just two days of activities! The remaining days will be filled with even more adventure!

Featured Theme: Stream Girls

We have another exciting opportunity for our older Girl Scouts. Stream Girls features brand-new activities and adventures at Camp Evelyn. This theme is meant for girls who love to go on outdoor adventures.

If you haven't read it yet, here is the description:

STREAM Girls is Trout Unlimited’s watershed STEM program for girls that builds confidence and breaks down barriers in science and the outdoors. Through the eyes of a scientist, artist, and angler, girls make a personal connection to their home waters. Trout Unlimited volunteers lead girls in observing a stream, collecting flow data, sampling macroinvertebrates (aka aquatic bugs), fly tying, and fly casting. Each day also gives the girls time to intimately explore their natural surroundings and record their thoughts, feelings, and observations in their handbooks.

We are excited to share a sneak peek of the schedule for the Stream Girls program. Here is a look at Monday's schedule:

After breakfast, campers will meet their instructors and go over the daily schedule. The first activity on the agenda is a unit on macroinvertebrates. Campers will take a look at the health of our river through water sampling.

After a break for lunch, campers will experience Fly Tying 101. During this unit, they will learn to how to tie flys for their fishing adventure.

The remainder of the afternoon will include a STREAM scavenger hunt, making water identification bracelets, and determining the flow of the river.

In the evening, campers will have the opportunity to participate in some classic camp activities such as tie-dye and swimming. There will also be plenty of time for showers!

The remainder of the week will focus on fishing skills and the last day will include a field trip to a local fish farm where campers will have the opportunity to put their skills to the test.

Featured Theme: Appetite for Adventure

We have a lot of new and exciting themes this summer! This week's featured theme is Appetite for Adventure! We know that our campers love to cook and have expanded upon this theme to include more cooking activities.

If you haven't read it yet, here is the description for the Appetite for Adventure session:

Have you ever wanted to be a chef, but are just not sure where to start? During this week of camp, you will learn basic cooking skills such as stovetop cooking basics, dicing fruit and veggies, and flipping pancakes. You will put your new skills together to prepare and create at least one meal to share with your fellow campers. 5-night campers will take a field trip away from camp to visit Nourish farms where they will make a meal with all homegrown ingredients. You will still have the chance to enjoy all of the classic camp activities such as swimming, tie-dye, and making s’mores!

We are excited to give you a little sneak peek at some of the exciting activities that we have planned. Here are some of the activities happening on Monday:

Monday morning will include choice activities where campers can choose to go to different stations. The stations include the following:
  • Pool

  • Archery (brownies and up)

  • Riverstomping/tubing

  • Homemade applesauce

  • Making chef aprons

The remainder of the morning will include some activities with Nourish Farms. A group from Nourish will be talking about composting and growing food. They will also prepare a special meal with homegrown ingredients for campers to enjoy.

After lunch and a little bit of me-time, campers will participate in the first-ever "Nailed It" competition at Camp Evelyn! We can't ruin too much of the surprise, but let's just say the first part of this activity will involve making some creepy desserts.

After dinner, we will continue with the second part of our "Nailed It" competition where campers will be challenged to replicate a Camp Evelyn cake. Of course, there will be some taste testing involved.

The optional late-night activity will include swimming in the pool!

This is just day one! We will have plenty more adventures and surprises during the rest of the week!
