Winter Fun at Camp Evelyn

This winter, we had the opportunity to host winter break camp at Camp Evelyn. We hosted four different sessions with unique badge opportunities. Overall, winter camp was a success and we are hoping to continue this next year!

Session 1: Math Magic

Campers had a blast at Math Magic. In the morning, campers learned about weather-related math.  Campers made their own sundials to tell time and barometers to measure air pressure. We also made neighborhood maps with keys and found the estimated age of the trees (the oldest was 82 years old). We still had time to get outside and play in the snow before it all melted. Below is a picture of campers attempting to calculate the age of a fallen tree.

Session 2: Girl Scout Investigators

So much fun was had at the Girl Scout Investigators session! We learned about shoe prints and fingerprints in the morning. Later in the afternoon we went on a scavenger hunt and solved a mystery at a beauty pageant. There was also a taste test challenge which included some strange foods. Campers still had a chance to enjoy making snowmen and snow forts. Below is a picture of campers trying to find all of the items during the scavenger hunt. The most difficult item to find was a shovel!

Session 3: Camp Invention

We got creative during Camp Invention! Campers had the opportunity to design their own good or service and share it with their peers. Some of our favorite projects were a robot that was designed to help the elderly with basic tasks and a toy made from a cup and balloon. We spent a little time in the snow in the morning and went for a hike around camp later in the afternoon. A favorite moment of many campers was getting to explore the pool during the winter! Below campers react to playing in a pool filled with snow.

Session 4: Snow Adventures

What a fun day we had at Sunburst Ski Hill! Campers enjoyed skiing, snowboarding, and tubing. We are ending the day with hot chocolate, board games, and shopping in the Canteen. This was the smallest session, but it was packed with good times! The picture below shows a group of campers posing at the top of the tubing hill.

Did your camper attend winter camp at Camp Evelyn? If so, we would love to know what they thought in the comments!

Featured Theme: School's Out

We have a lot of new and exciting themes this summer! Our first overnight theme is School's Out! When we were brainstorming themes, we realized that many of our campers are just coming out of school during the first few weeks of camp. We decided to go with something that would be engaging for all ages, but a bit more relaxed for the first overnight session.

If you haven't read it yet, here is the description for the School's Out session:

School’s out for the summer! Camp Evelyn is here to take you on the vacation of a lifetime. It’s time to sleep in and soak up the sun. This is not your typical camp theme! Each day you will go on a new adventure during your vacation journey, but there will still be plenty of time to relax. Find your inner ninja and give laser tag a try during an off-camp trip to Strand Adventures. Have an indoor slumber party with pillow fights, pizza ordered in, and movies until midnight. Enjoy optional late-night activities each evening with later wake-up times every day. Don’t worry, we will still have morning energizers for those who want to wake up with the sun! Dress to impress for our summer kick-off costume party. Schools are out and camp is in. Join us for a week to remember!
